Special Seniors Recieve 2005 JJ Vance Scholarships
Congratulations to JJ Vance Memorial Scholarship recipients Elizabeth Williams and Joseph McMahon.
Elizabeth Williams

Varsity Field Hockey and Soccer

The scholarship committee would like to recognize Elizabeth's remarkable achievements at East Chapel Hill High School (ECHHS). Athletically and academically, she has exhibited leadership, drive, and work ethic. In addition to her high scholastic record, Elizabeth has earned many athletic honors, including the NFHCA Second-Team All-American and National Academic Squad and the NC School State Tournament MVP award. Elizabeth will attend Princeton University in the fall, where she’s been recruited to play field hockey. She plans to study science and is pre-med.
Joseph McMahon

Varsity Basketball

The scholarship committee also acknowledges Joseph's accomplishments at East Chapel Hill High School (ECHHS). He has excelled both academically and athletically. Being the ECHHS basketball team’s point guard and captain, Joseph believes that sports have taught him the importance of leadership and teamwork. As a basketball camp volunteer, he’s become a mentor to those with his same high aspirations. Joseph will be an incoming Blue Devil at Duke University this fall.
JJ Vance Memorial Scholarship was established by the family and friends of JJ Vance, who was a student-athlete at East Chapel Hill High School at the time of his death in 1998.
